postheadericon BAY SHARKS WIN HEAVY BEER DIV AT CT TENS

The False Bay Sharks, sponsored by Store-Age won the Heavy Beer Division at this year's Cape Town Tens. Played in sweltering heat, the Bay beat Maties in the semi final and went onto win the final. Club Captain Jonno van der Walt wrote this report.

After False Bay’s 2011 Cape Town Tens success of making it into the semi finals of the Premier Division, the semi finals in the Beer League and our Crocks doing well, it was a given that False Bay would enter for 3rd time in 4years.

Brendon Shields and Dasch Barber had spent their festive season recruiting and contracting players from all corners of the globe as well as securing sponsors for the 10s. The team was comprised of a mix of the 1stXV and the successfull 2ndXV from 2011 which on paper seemed to be a competitive squad.

2012 has started off well with the first 10 practices being very well attended. The vibe and gees has been amazing with all the players just keen to get on with it.

Due to the fact that you can only have 18 players in your squad and at least 15 were contracted to the False Bay sharks since mid last year, it was only fitting that some other Bay guys joined forces and formed other teams (more from a social point of view). Players were scattered in teams like The Savages, Victoria's Secret and Border Bullets.

But when the BAY played all were there to support their club and team mates.

A water bottle here and there and encouragement from the side lines kept the Green Machine going.

The BAY Sharks were unbeaten in the tournament and knocked out their Nemisis, MATIES in the semi finals, going on to achieve BEER HEAVY CHAMPION status.

False Bay were spoilt by Stor-Age who came on board as Kit sponsor, water, beer and everything else sponsor. They really impressed and the Bay Boys cannot thank them enough for everything they did to make the week-end enjoyable.

We hope this relationship can build into something stronger in the future.

Fines were had, beers were consumed and the boys celebrated as one would expect.

With tired and aching bodies the guys still managed to pick themselves up for a training session on Monday. Back to the grindstone as they say.

CT Tens is over and we now prepare for the next encounter which is UCT (varsity cup drop outs / or guys that did not make it) in early March

OMG it’s good to be a BAY BOY.

Well done again to all the teams including Crocks, to all the supporters wives and girlfriends who made the Cape Town Castle 10s another success for the BAY
