postheadericon PRACTICES ON THE GO

The Bay practices are in full swing with the Seniors training on Monday and Thursday nights from 6pm. Thursday sessions will be followed by a get together in the clubhouse with the aim of getting to know each other better, building strong bonds which will serve the teams well on the pitch. Club Captain Jonno van der Walt dropped us a few lines.

The first week of training was well attended, with more than just a few new faces and with a number of up and coming Under 20s from last season in attendance, the atmosphere was vibey and positive.

We aim to make all feel welcome and a facility we will make good use of is our clubhouse. Every Thursday after practice we will do something which is designed to build club spirit and get to know each other better.

Halfway through our first Thursday practice of this exciting season, the attention of the heavily perspiring players was distracted by South Africa’s national scent, braai smoke, wafting across the pitch from the clubhouse on a hot Summer night. Bliss! Medic Ricky Jacobs had lit a fire and by time the lads had finished the last of their fitness drills and showered (well the older guys did, younger lads still a bit shy), the coals were ready and the drinks very cold.

The Mad Pom, Club Manager Jon Evans, as always tuned into creating a pub vibe, had a few specials on the go, including draught beer for R12 and R20 per double. It had the desired effect. The guys stayed a little longer than they expected and newcomers were no longer strangers by the second frostie. This is how we do it at False Bay.

By this time the Boerie rolls were being smeared in tomato sauce and gulped down to satiate a hunger based on a good workout on the pitch. Of course, as is the problem with eating, one feels like another drink and the lads tucked in, the “Usual Suspects” showing the rest what Thursday nights at False Bay entails.

The warm evening lent itself to load shedding of a different kind as some of the lads felt encumbered by the number of garments they were wearing and decided to remove some if not all of these.

Midnight, Buffaloes, Half-Halfs, and shooters all behind the lads and the Takkie Bar closed. Those in need of travel assistance were taken care of by their team mates and the first Thursday gathering of the 2012 season ended with the seeds of the renowned Bay spirit, watered and germinating.

This Thursday (27 January) sees a PS3 Competition.
