About the Academy
Background to the formation of the FALSE BAY JUNIOR RUGBY ACADEMY (FBJRA)
A Strategic review was undertaken by the new committee of the False Bay Rugby Football Club in November of 2004. This resulted in the stated intent: "to seek relevant and sustainable solutions towards excellence on the rugby field". Key objectives which arose from this process were the need to embrace transformation in rugby, to promote junior rugby and to ensure coaching excellence.
FBRFC began engaging with a variety of interested parties towards this end:
- Clubs in the region
- Local communities
- Local schools
- Existing skill bases (Sporting Chance; Bishops Rugby Academy)
The False Bay Rugby Academy was constituted on Monday 14 February 2005, initially based on the southern section of the then Bishops Rugby Academy, following discussions with one of the life members of the club, Mr Basil Bey.
Although initially run by volunteers, the aim was ultimately to secure funding to ensure the sustainability of the program and to ensure that its activities remain as broad-based as possible.
Objectives:
PARTICIPATION
Accessibility to the sport for interested juniors
Healthy competition
Alternative outlets for youthful activity
CONTINUITY
Broadening of the support base for clubs
Creating identity and nurturing loyalty
Skills enhancement & coaching
TRANSFORMATION
Where it matters
Creating individual opportunity
Building relationship within & between communities
The FBJRA was born and motivated coaches and managers visited schools and local communities to spread the rugby message . . .
